SEO, Google Search & Shopify fixes · May 2026
Phil has been a godsend for us. We were having a couple of issues with SEO and Google Search, not realising that there was some deeper issues with the new theme we had deployed.
We hired Phil and he has been brilliant, systematically working through our Google, Cloudflare and Shopify, changing it all to best practice. We have noticed a large increase in traffic and better click through and sales with us having implemented his suggestions.
He is very quick to respond and treats our business like its his own.

CRO
Conversion optimization, backed by data.
More traffic doesn't help if visitors don't buy. I find where your store is losing buyers, fix it, and measure the result, so changes are based on data, not guesses.
5.0Shopify growth partner · SEO & CRO · 3 months
Phil was excellent to work with on our Shopify site. I'd happily hire him again and recommend him to anyone who needs a reliable Shopify dev.
He understood the brief quickly and asked sensible questions up front so we were aligned on scope and priorities. Communication was clear, prompt and straightforward throughout the project, which made it very easy to keep things moving. The work itself was high quality: clean implementation, thoughtful solutions rather than quick hacks, and everything delivered on time. He also spotted a few issues outside the original scope, explained the impact in plain English and suggested practical fixes, which I really appreciated.
Overall, Phil feels like a safe pair of hands for any Shopify work. If you want someone who knows what they're doing, doesn't stuff you around and gets things done properly, he's your guy.

300+Shopify stores since 2017
I've seen what goes wrong, again and again.
Since 2017, I've helped more than 300 Shopify stores, most of them startups. After that many, I know the complaints and problems store owners run into most, and where to look first to fix them.
For new brands, I help build the whole foundation: branding, content and SEO so they show up on Google, plus Meta and Google Ads pixels when they're ready to run paid ads. Today, that also includes GEO, so AI tools can find and recommend their store.

Questions clients ask before we start
New to ecommerce? These are the questions I hear most. If yours isn't here, send me a message on Upwork.
Pricing & estimates
Do you offer a free audit?
No. A proper audit takes real time, usually 3 to 5 hours depending on the size of your store. I go through your analytics, product pages, SEO, tracking and checkout so the recommendations are based on your actual data, not guesswork. You get a prioritized list of fixes you can act on, whether or not you hire me for the implementation.
How much do your services cost?
It depends on what your store needs. A full build can cover everything from setting up your Shopify store, products, shipping and delivery, to SEO, tracking pixels and Google Merchant Center. For existing stores, I usually start with a 3 to 5 hour audit, and the estimate depends on what the audit finds. If you already have a mockup, share it and I can give you an estimate based on that. My usual hourly rates are $20 to $30 depending on the type of work (see the next question), and they're negotiable for longer projects.
How much does it usually cost to build a Shopify store from scratch?
Most new Shopify builds land between $1,000 and $8,000, depending on how much content and functionality you want on your site. From what I've seen with past clients, it often goes beyond $8,000 later, when they come back to revamp their first design. That usually happens when competition grows and they want more visibility through SEO and organic traffic: more content like blogs and guides, cleaner product data, and better structured data so Google and AI tools understand their store. Planning for this from the start can save you a costly rebuild later. These amounts cover my work only. Your Shopify plan, theme and any paid apps are paid separately.
Is your hourly rate on Upwork negotiable?
Yes, depending on the project. My rate isn't the same for every job, because some projects are quick and straightforward, some are complex, and some simply take a lot of hours. These are my usual hourly rates:
Usual hourly rates
Type of work
Rate
Design implementation and custom app development (usually projects of 3+ weeks)
$20/hr
Web pixel setup, CRO optimization and speed optimization
Rates are in USD and work is done through Upwork. For longer projects with many hours of work, I can lower the rate depending on the total hours needed. Before we start, you'll get a timeline and estimate based on what we agree on.
Do you work on a fixed price?
I prefer working hourly, because store work often uncovers things no one could see at the start. Before any implementation begins, I give you a clear timeline and estimate, so you know what to expect and there are no surprise costs.
Do I need to pay for Shopify separately?
Yes. Your Shopify plan is paid directly by you to Shopify, and the store stays in your name. Some themes and apps also have their own fees. I'll recommend what you actually need, so you don't pay for apps you won't use.
Working with me
Are you an agency, or do you have a team working on your projects?
No, I'm not an agency. I work solo, so the person you talk to is the person doing the work, with no hand-offs to other developers. With today's AI tools in my workflow, my turnaround is around 70% faster than it was before AI, so you get the attention of one experienced developer with much quicker delivery.
Can I hire you outside of Upwork?
I work through Upwork only. I've been on Upwork for almost 4 years, and it lets both of us focus on the work instead of worrying about payments. You get Upwork's payment protection, and I can put all my attention into building and fixing what your store needs.
Can you design a mockup if I don't have one?
Yes. If you don't have a design yet, I can create a mockup that fits your brand before building anything. If you already have a mockup, from Figma or anywhere else, send it over and I'll build from that.
Can you work on my existing store and theme?
Yes. Most of my work is on live stores: fixing what's slowing sales down, cleaning up product data and tracking, and improving pages, without starting over unless that's truly the better option.
Can you migrate my store from WordPress or another platform to Shopify?
Yes. I've migrated stores from WooCommerce to Shopify, including products, orders and subscriptions. One of those projects took about 2 weeks because of the amount of data, so the timeline depends mostly on how much data you have. I'll check your store first and give you a timeline and estimate before we start.
Do you offer consultations?
Yes, you can book a consultation with me on Upwork. Before booking, prepare a list of what you want to know or what you need help with. Sometimes clients find it hard to explain what they need during the call, and the time runs out before all their questions are answered. Coming prepared helps us cover everything and makes the most of your time.
Can I hire you for occasional work, just a few hours a month when I need help?
Honestly, that arrangement isn't a good fit for me. With irregular, occasional tasks, I'm usually busy with other projects when they come in, so I can't give your work the priority it deserves, and you wouldn't get the service you should. It works much better when there's at least some activity every week. If you have that, I'd be very happy to work with you.
Are you available during US or Western working hours?
I'm based in Cebu City, Philippines (UTC+8), so I don't work Western business hours. Many of my clients are in Asia-Pacific, like Australia and Singapore. That said, I've worked with a US client on Upwork for almost 2 years. When we need a meeting, we usually schedule it in my morning, which is around 8 to 11 PM US Eastern time. Outside of meetings, we collaborate smoothly through shared Google Docs, and I'm also comfortable with Jira, Trello, Monday.com and ClickUp.
Custom apps & customizers
Do you build custom apps and product customizers?
Yes. I've built product customizers that are added directly to the store's Liquid theme and connected to Shopify metafields and metaobjects, so the store team can manage options without touching code. One example is the Print & Frame customizer for Framely, where shoppers upload a photo, choose size, finish and frame, and see a live preview and price. I also built a build-your-own product customizer for a Singapore custom gift brand.
What do you need from me to build a custom app or product customizer?
A mockup of how you want it to look, if you have one. If you don't, I can design it for you. Most importantly, give me the details of your requirements: what options shoppers should be able to choose, how pricing should work, and what should happen after they add it to cart. The clearer the requirements, the more accurate my estimate.
How long does it take to build a custom app or product customizer?
It depends on the requirements. For example, the customizer for the Singapore gift brand took about 3 weeks, because it needed extra calibration and several rounds of client feedback. The Framely customizer took about 5 weeks, because of the large number of variants that had to be set up. It's hard to give an exact estimate up front, because once the first version is built, clients usually come up with more features they'd like to add. I'll give you a timeline and estimate for the first version before we start.
Can you build an app with its own admin or backend interface?
Yes. It takes longer than a theme-based customizer, because the work is doubled: both the backend and the frontend need to be built and set up. I'll explain the scope and timeline before we start.
What's needed to build a custom app with a backend interface?
Usually a Shopify Partner account to create the app, a hosting platform such as Vercel, and a GitHub repository for the code. If you want to own the source code and have full control, we can set these up under your own accounts. I'll walk you through what's needed for your specific app.
Can you build custom apps for checkout and customer accounts?
Yes, depending on your requirements. Give me the details of what you need, so I can give you an accurate estimate. Note that some checkout customizations are only available on Shopify Plus, so I'll check what's possible on your plan first.
Can you integrate third-party apps through their API, like Judge.me?
I'm new to ecommerce. Do I need to know anything technical?
No. You know your product and your customers; I handle the technical side. I'll guide you through each step in plain language and ask simple questions about your business when I need information.
What do I need to prepare before we start?
Your products (names, prices, sizes or options), product photos, your logo if you have one, and how you plan to ship. Don't worry if you don't have product descriptions or page content yet. I'll send you simple questions, the same ones your buyers will ask, and turn your answers into pages that sell.
Will I be able to update my store myself after you're done?
Yes. I build stores so your team can manage them without calling me, and every build comes with notes your team can follow.
My budget is limited. Can my ecommerce store still succeed?
It's possible, but it's harder without an ecommerce background, because a successful store takes a lot of work beyond just launching the site, especially if your products have many competitors. Some store owners rely on paid ads alone, but ads don't guarantee sales either. Your content structure, site performance and trust signals (like clear product pages, reviews and policies) still decide whether visitors actually buy. If your budget is limited, I'll help you focus on what matters most first, so every dollar goes where it makes the biggest difference.
What's the right way to make an ecommerce store succeed?
No ecommerce store succeeds overnight. Success comes from continuous improvement over time, so your store needs ongoing maintenance, not just a launch. AI tools can help a lot today, but they still don't guarantee success on their own, especially without a web development background. Many issues only show up over time: small lapses, blind spots and problems you won't notice right away. Most importantly, keep your focus on both people and machines. Search engines and AI tools are what bring visitors and leads to your store, but people are the ones who make the decision and buy. A store that works well for both is the one that grows.
CRO, SEO & marketing
What is CRO, and does my store need it?
CRO (conversion rate optimization) means getting more of your existing visitors to buy, instead of only trying to bring in more traffic. If people visit your store but few of them purchase, CRO is usually the fastest way to grow sales, because you're improving what already brings visitors. I look at your data, find where shoppers drop off, fix those spots and measure the results.
What's the difference between SEO and GEO?
SEO (search engine optimization) helps your store show up on Google when people search for products like yours. GEO (generative engine optimization) helps AI tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI answers understand and recommend your store. I set up both, so buyers can find you wherever they search.
Can you guarantee my store will rank first on Google or get a certain amount of sales?
No one can honestly guarantee rankings or sales, and you should be careful with anyone who does. What I can do is fix the things that hold stores back and set your store up the right way, so Google, AI tools and shoppers can find it, trust it and buy from it.
How soon will I see results from SEO?
SEO isn't instant, especially if many other stores are competing for the same search terms. It usually takes 3 months or longer to see real movement in rankings and organic traffic, depending on how your rankings progress. Your competitors are also working to stay at the top, so SEO works best as steady, ongoing work rather than a one-time fix. I'll explain what to expect for your store and which improvements matter most first.
Can you help me get ready for Facebook and Google ads?
Yes. I set up the Meta Pixel and Google Ads tracking so your ads can measure sales correctly from day one. Without this, you can't tell which ads are actually working.
What is Google Merchant Center, and do I need it?
Google Merchant Center lets your products appear in Google Shopping results, with photos and prices. If you sell physical products, it's worth setting up. I can connect it to your Shopify store and make sure your product data is clean so your products get approved and shown.
